If you’ve worn dentures for years, it is important to remember that a denture is a prosthetic and may require a period of adjustment. We believe that new dentures can help you feel like a whole new you. Our in-house lab has been fabricating dentures in the Medicine Hat area which has helped many patients experience a better fit, feel and function for over 20 years.
Our denturist will always recommend getting your dentures checked once a year after the first 5 years, or any time if the denture is giving you trouble. Because the bone of your jaw and tissue of your mouth undergo regular and constant change, dentures can last for 5-7 years with good oral care. Wearing a poor-fitting denture can cause issues such as speech, clicking noises while chewing and pain.
Upon receipt of your new denture it is important to maintain good communication while trying to make this adaption period easier as you may experience some common irritants such as:
Feeling of bulk
Speech problems
Chewing difficulties
Whistling
Swallowing difficulties
Food under the dentures
Loosening of the denture with liquids
Mouth or tongue burning sensation
New Dentures Takes Time
Depending on your schedule and ours, you will have a new set of dentures, custom-fabricated in our in-house lab within a reasonable time frame. We begin with an in-office consultation to better understand your concerns and discuss the options available. If you’re already wearing dentures, we’ll discuss what you like and dislike about your present dental appliance, and offer recommendations to increase your comfort and look.
As each denture is custom-fabricated for you, it takes approximately two weeks on an average to go from a mould to the final fitting.
